The Division 2 may be teasing the new Assassin’s Creed game

Ubisoft may be teasing the new Assassin’s Creed game in post-apocalyptic looter shooter The Division 2. As reported by Kotaku, the next title in the long-running franchise could be about Vikings. Youtuber JorRaptor broke the news, claiming that posters hung all around the Potomac Event Center showcase a Viking-looking character holding a spear and something that looks like the Apple of Eden, a critical technological part of Assassin’s Creed lore.

The top of this poster reads “Valhalla,” which in Norse mythology is where great warriors go after they die. There is also some textual praise on the poster, almost as if it’s about some play. “A graceful, powerful work of opera,” the piece reads. This is a subtle easter egg, but one that hides in plain sight at the same time. Despite the game’s release on March 15th, nobody noticed this until now. Of course, a sneaky artist could have brought in the poster later on, but we may never know for sure.

Beyond these details, Kotaku had previously learned from two anonymous sources that the next Assassin’s Creed will feature Vikings. That, and they’re pretty sure the game won’t come until 2020, which is also the potential time of release for next-gen consoles. Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag was a cross-gen title, after all, so we can likely expect the franchise to continue that tradition.

Ubisoft is no stranger to teasing future games in their current ones, either. For example, in Watch Dogs 2, players can “hack” into the Ubisoft office in San Fransico to view the trailer of a game called Pioneer. The game was believed to have been canceled, but Kotaku did some digging and found out otherwise.

With that said, if we’re not getting an Assassin’s Creed game this year, what does Ubisoft have planned for the fall season? Well, Watch Dogs 2 had a tease for Watch Dogs 3, hinting at a 2019 release date. We also know that the pirate-focused Skull and Bones is coming this year, and it’s possible we’ll see a new Splinter Cell sometime soon as well.
