death stranding trailer release date

New Death Stranding trailer and release date could arrive later this week

A new Death Stranding trailer and the Hideo Kojima game’s release date may arrive this week, as developer Kojima Productions has teased an announcement for Wednesday, May 29, 2019. In a tweet announcing “the countdown of Death Stranding,” the studio urged followers to “create the rope” alongside the date. This follows a recent cryptic tweet from director Kojima, which appeared to feature new video footage from the game.

No time has been given for the announcement, though Kojima Productions calling it the start of the “countdown” for Death Stranding suggests that we may receive news of a release date on May 29. Thus far, Kojima has remained quiet in regards to when the highly-anticipated game will launch. It was predicted that its release date would be revealed during E3 2019 in June, though it looks like we’ll be receiving more information sooner than expected.

The last Death Stranding trailer was revealed during E3 2018, with it also offering our first look at its gameplay. Starring Norman Reedus, the game sees the player wandering a post-apocalyptic wasteland, making mysterious deliveries while trying to survive the looming threat of the terrifying monsters that now inhabit the world.

“Chase the rope” ties into a theme Kojima has already discussed around the time of Death Stranding‘s reveal. According to the director, the game was inspired by a short story from Kōbō Abe which used sticks and ropes to represent life and death.

“In this short story, Abe states that the first tool mankind created is a stick,” Kojima told IGN in 2016. “He states that the stick is the first tool that mankind created to put distance between himself and bad things — to protect himself. He states that the second tool mankind created is a rope. A rope is a tool used to secure things that are important to you.”
