The fourth part of the Astartes Warhammer 40k fan film has become the No. 1 trending video on YouTube after months of waiting. This longtime project created by an unnamed artist from New Zealand has been in the works for several years, with short films releasing every six months or so. Now, the newest episode of this unofficial fan film has been released and it’s been very well-received, easily landing on the top spot on YouTube‘s Trending tab.
The opening moments of Astartes Part 4 begins by showing what appears to be a pair of cybernetically-augmented Psykers standing in the middle of a massive room. A pair of Space Marines from an unknown chapter fire their Bolters at one of the pair of Psykers to no avail — the bolter rounds are immediately stopped by a psychic shield. Another Astartes flanks them and attempts a second ranged attack, but this tactic fails as well.
While the two Psykers are under fire, another Space Marines charges at full speed and fires a plasma pistol, subsequently discarding it after this shot is also blocked. He attempts to close into melee range, but is halted by the enemy’s psychic powers. He fires his bolt pistol and momentarily distracts them, but he is still unable to deliver the finishing blow. Another Space Marine closes in and manages to jam his combat knife into the enemy’s side, ripping out a bundle of wires from the back of the enemy’s head. The remaining Space Marines sheathe their weapons and head on to a mysterious door. It is here that the fourth episode of the Astartes fan film concludes.
Astartes is one of many fan projects that show the Space Marines of Warhammer 40,000 in action. This particular episode was certainly very exciting, and getting to the No. 1 trending spot on YouTube is as fine of an endorsement as any.
