More details have surfaced regarding the new Creative Assembly game that’s in development. Specifically, a job listing for the game point to the new FPS being a hero shooter in the vein of Overwatch.
According to the job listing, Creative Assembly is looking for a “lead hero designer” for the upcoming game. The listing states that this person will have to “ensure our game heroes match the creative world and vision, providing compelling gameplay.”

The listing goes into a bit more detail on the heroes, stating that they will have a “range of amazing thought and play provoking specialities.” This is in line with how other hero shooters operate. Games Team Fortress 2, Overwatch, and Rainbow Six Siege revolve around around teams of unique characters with equally unique abilities facing off against each other.
Additionally, the listing seems to hint that Creative Assembly’s upcoming game will have cosmetic microtransactions. Specifically, the it that the team is looking for someone who has a “broad understanding of monetization, rewards, and art production” and will guide the team “on visual design and cosmetics.”
With this in mind, the question now becomes what exactly the visual style of the new shooter will be. Cosmetic microtransactions sell based on aesthetics after all, so nailing a distinct look is paramount for any game that aims to make money off them.
The clue seems to lie with one particular person attached to the project. When the game was first revealed, Creative Assembly tweeted that District 9 director Neil Blomkamp had taken visited the studio for a look at the game. This may hint that the game will feature the gritty, “used future” aesthetic that Blomkamp loves to use in his films.
Both parties were also involved with the Alien franchise. Blomkamp was set to direct a fifth Alien film before it was cancelled. Meanwhile, Creative Assembly’s previous first-person game was Alien: Isolation. Could this new hero shooter be one based on the Alien franchise? Probably not but expect to hear more about the new Creative Assembly game sometime in the future.
