Nioh 2 release window

Nioh 2 release window revealed in TGS trailer

Developer Team Ninja and PlayStation have just revealed the Nioh 2 release window. While we still don’t have a concrete release date for Nioh 2, the latest trailer reveals the time frame for the upcoming release.

Nioh 2 is the sequel to Team Ninja’s acclaimed 2017 action RPG. The studio shared the release window in anticipation of the Tokyo Game Show 2019, which runs from September 12 to September 15.

Nioh 2 is going to be released during early 2020, with no mention of any specific platforms. The first game is available on PS4 and PC, so it’s possible that the follow-up is going to remain a Sony exclusive, with no Xbox One version in the foreseeable future.

The Nioh 2 release window was announced through a new trailer (which was removed in the meantime) that mixes cutscenes with brief glimpses of gameplay. The graphics are impressive, showcasing a considerable quality leap from the first game. The bosses are especially haunting, once again paving the way for endless comparisons to the Dark Souls series.

Team Ninja’s Creative Director Tom Lee recently promised that the studio would be showing a brand new Nioh 2 demo during Tokyo Game Show 2019, so this trailer and release window reveal is a simple appetizer before the main course.

Back in May and June, there was a closed alpha demo where over 50,000 players from all over the world participated. Afterwards, over 18,000 players responded to the survey, with overwhelmingly positive and constructive feedback, according to Lee.

Nioh is often described as a Souls-like, due to its sheer difficulty and memorable boss encounters. The sequel will stay true to the formula, providing another dose of epic clashes, as the player, a half-breed samurai warrior, dives deep into the Dark Realm of the Yokai. His journey will see him transforming from human into fiend, a metamorphosis that is expected to be spectacular.
