next hideo kojima horror game

The next Hideo Kojima game might scare your pants off

Now that Death Stranding is out on the PS4, we may have gotten our first hints as to what the next Hideo Kojima game might be. Death Stranding has been a rousing success, and Kojima may have just dropped a hint as to what he’s going to be making next. From what we can tell, it might just be something spooky.

“As to make the scariest horror game, I’ll watch the scary movies in order to awaken my horror soul,” Hideo Kojima said in a tweet. “THE EYE is the Thai horror movie I rent when making PT but was too scary to finish watching. The package is scary so I rented the disc only. Will I be able to finish watching?”

If you’re not a follower of Hideo Kojima, you might not know that he’s a pretty big cinephile — so much so that his Twitter bio states that “70% of my body is made of movies.” He often posts about movies he’s liked or recently watched, but this most recent tweet is particularly interesting.

You’ll note that he said “As to make the scariest horror game” at the beginning of the tweet. He also noted that The Eye was a movie that he watched while he was making P.T. (short for “Playable Teaser”), an interactive introduction of sorts to a later Silent Hill game. While Death Stranding certainly has its spooky moments, it’s not really a dedicated horror game — but the next Hideo Kojima game may well be.

So, was he simply reminiscing about his work on P.T.defected from Konami or was he dropping hints about the next Hideo Kojima game? Kojima Productions has more than a hundred developers on staff, many of whom after the company more or less stopped making new, AAA video games. Whether it’s Silent Hill or something else, we may have just had our first hint that Hideo Kojima is going to make his next game extra spooky.
