London electronic music label Hyperdub is teaming up with Analogue to release a new album, Konsolation, in an unconventional format. Konsolation will only be available via a Sega Genesis cartridge. Luckily, if you don’t happen to have a Genesis on hand, the album will be packaged with a limited edition Mega Sg, an FPGA-based console which can play multiple generations of Sega games.
Konsolation celebrates Hyperdub’s 15th anniversary and features 11 tracks from various artists. These tracks (and the album itself) are exclusive to cartridge. This limited edition is actually limited, too. Only 1,000 Analogue x Hyperdub bundles are available for purchase, so fans should act fast.
ALSO: Retro Ad Replay – PlayStation 25th Anniversary
The track list for Konsolation is:
- Burial – Starlore
- Scratcha Dva – Mega Wasp
- Ikonika – Git Gud
- Jessy Lanza and Jeremy Greenspan – Bobby
- Proc Fiskal – Flakier Whelk
- Lee Gamble – Segatrack
- Mana – Altered Interzone
- Cooly G – Check Check
- Nazar – Yula
- DJ Taye – FF
- Kode9 – Spiral Unlock
In the Hyperdub LE bundle you’ll get:
- Analogue Mega Sg (Hyperdub LE)
- 8BitDo M30 2.4g (Hyperdub LE)
- Exclusive Hyperdub Album Cartridge (Hyperdub LE)
- Hyperdub ‘3rd Ear Cat’ Metal Keychain
- HDMI cable
- USB cable
- Worldwide USB Power Supply (100-240v, 50/60hz, USA/JPN plug-type)
The Mega Sg has received critical acclaim for its FPGA emulation. If you’re looking to play Genesis titles, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better way to do it on modern TVs. At $249.99 the Mega Sg is a lot more affordable than getting an original console and a quality upscaler, and you don’t even have to worry about finding the right model and motherboard revision to get the best audio (Model 1 High-Def VA6 squad for life). The Mega Sg even has Sega CD compatibility (though it looks comically small attached to a CD unit).
The Hyperdub x Analogue bundle is available now on Analogue’s website for $249.99. With only 1,000 units this won’t be around long, so check it out ASAP.
