Nintendo 3DS Continues Hot Streak With Fourth Straight Month At The Top

With Mario & Luigi: Dream Team and continued strength in Animal Crossing: New Leaf sales, Nintendo claims yet another month with the best-selling hardware in America, pushing over 6.47 million units of 3DS software in 2013 alone. Nintendo did not offer the exact number of units sold.

Whether or not Wii U follows suit in turning things around, Nintendo's handheld business simply can't be beat as new gamers and parents are likely sharing portable handheld bliss on those long summer trips. There's certainly no shortage of games to play.

In the release (because video game companies are really weird and don't like to share hard data on sales or development) Nintendo also says that nine 3DS games have sold more than 250,000 copies (retail and digital combined) in 2013 alone. Those titles are Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, Animal Crossing, New Super Mario Bros 2, Fire Emblem Awakening, Mario Kart 7, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, Super Mario 3D Land, and LEGO City Undercover.

Holy crap. Honestly, Aonuma better be laughing about a Majora's Mask 3D-make not just because they are in fact making that game, but because they'll need it in early Spring 2014 to continue this blistering pace! September might break the streak without a major new 3DS release, but October's Pokemon X & Y will prove super effective on the charts. Also, there's a new Zelda game coming out in November. So… yeah.
