DayZ Tencent acquisition Bohemia Interactive CEO

DayZ Tencent acquisition rumors are ‘not true’, Bohemia CEO says

Rumors of a DayZ Tencent acquisition are “not true” according to Bohemia Interactive CEO Marek Spanel. According to him, these rumors are based on a misunderstanding of previous conversations about the future of DayZ and they don’t accurately reflect the future of the franchise.

“Dear all, I just wanted to let you know that the information circulated by various major media sources about Bohemia Interactive acquired by Tencent is not true,” Spanel said in a post on the Bohemia Interactive forums. “We were talking to numerous potential partners in the past about possible strategic cooperation and we may do so in the future as well but as of now, we remain an independent studio.”

Tencent is a Chinese gaming conglomerate that has been investing in various game developers and tech companies; it has been aggressively expanding its investments in the last couple of years. Earlier this year, Tencent has invested in Platinum Games and placed a bid for Conan Exiles developer Funcom.

While the rumors of a DayZ Tencent acquisition may have been worrying for the game’s fans, it looks like they can breathe easy for now. Bohemia’s CEO jokingly said that he would be considering retirement by cashing in one of these offers, but it looks unlikely that he’ll be taking any of them anytime soon.
