If you’ve gotten Cyberpunk 2077 beta invites via email, don’t try to redeem it: CD Projekt Red says that these emails are “not from us.” You didn’t just get invited into a secret beta for Cyberpunk 2077 — someone is trying to scam you.
“If you recently received an email claiming to be granting you beta access to Cyberpunk 2077, it’s not from us,” began a Twitter thread from the game’s official account. “Unfortunately, there have been more of these being sent out over the past few weeks. When we contact you via email, it’ll always come from @ cdprojektred com address”
“Same goes for content creators,” the thread continued. “We always reach out directly from @ cdprojektred com domain. If you are being contacted by a third party claiming to be working with us (an ad agency for example), you can assume it’s not genuine.”
CD Projekt Red previously stated that there were “no plans” for either a closed beta or an open beta all the way back in February 2019. That hasn’t changed; the company repeated its stance on the matter, stating once again that they “do not have plans” for a beta of any sort prior to the game’s late 2020 launch.
Why are these Cyberpunk 2077 beta invites going out? Presumably, these e-mails are being used as some sort of scam. A game as popular as Cyberpunk 2077 is sure to attract a lot of attention, and some of that attention is going to come from people who don’t have your best interests at heart.
Indeed, these scams aren’t restricted to just beta access. One person on Twitter reports that someone was trying to license their music for use in the game, also from a random e-mail account instead of from a proper CD Projekt Red e-mail address.
While the lack of Cyberpunk 2077 beta invites might be disappointing, you won’t have to wait too long to play this game: it’s scheduled to launch on November 19, 2020. For now, you can pre-order Cyberpunk 2077 for the PS4 or for PC via Amazon and save 17% off of its retail price.
