Spider-Man: Miles Morales acknowledges the ‘pointing at Spider-Man’ meme

Spider-Man: Miles Morales has acknowledged the famous ‘Spider-Man pointing at Spider-Man’ meme, officially making it canonical in the PlayStation series. The meme was referenced in a new trailer for the game posted to Twitter.

The new Miles Morales trailer features Miles texting Peter Parker, the original Spider-Man, and getting some tips on how to be a hero. These tips include not getting pizza grease stains on the suit and learning how to take heroic photos, with Peter concluding the chat with: “You. ARE. Spider-Man!”

The trailer then shows an updated version of the meme, depicting Miles and Peter pointing at one another in their respective Spider-Man suits.

‘Pointing at Spider-Man’ becomes canon in Spider-Man: Miles Morales

The ‘pointing at Spider-Man’ meme was popularized in the early 2010s, with it being circulated on imageboards such as 9GAG and 4chan. It is most commonly used to mockingly depict two similar individuals or people who share the same beliefs.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales is set to launch on the PS5 and PS4 this November, with Insomniac stating that it will be a “full story arc” rather than a proper sequel to the original game. This time around, players will assume the role of the titular Miles Morales, who has taken over Spider-Man duties from Peter Parker.

Following on from 2018’s Spider-Man and its DLC The City That Never Sleeps, Miles is protecting New York as Spider-Man after being trained under Peter. Set a year apart from the previous game’s events, Miles’ Spider-Man takes on Roxxon Energy Corporation and a gang called the Underground, in a battle to defend his home.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales there has been some confusion will be available on both the PS4 and PS5, though over whether or not Spider-Man PS4 players can make the upgrade to the PS5 version of the game for free.
