Apex Legends smurfing

Apex Legends smurfing accounts could be a dying breed

Apex Legends smurfing accounts may soon be a thing of the past, should a recent leak prove accurate. Smurfs are commonplace in ranked, with many players looking to circumvent skill-based matchmaking (SBMM) by making a steady stream of new profiles. Now, however, a solution could be on the way in the form of an improved Apex Legends player reporting system.

Can you report smurfs in Apex Legends?

Recent leaks indicate that new Apex Legends report types are incoming, including an option to report smurfing. By utilizing the in-game player reporting system, users should soon be able to help rid Apex Legends of smurf accounts.

Apex data miner @kralrindo broke the news on Twitter. While smurfing is present in a large number of online shooters, it’s particularly common in EA and Respawn Entertainment’s Apex Legends. Users progressing through the Bronze rank to reach Silver, then dumping their accounts to repeat the process anew isn’t uncommon. Unfortunately, this ruins the experience for many new players coming into the game for the first time.

While SBMM is a controversial system in and of itself, smurf accounts only really serve to exacerbate its issues. Although the smurfer in question might be having more fun than otherwise by steamrolling the mismatched competition, it’s a miserable time for everyone else. As such, the community at large will likely welcome new measures to cut back on the underhanded practice.

In addition to smurfing, on the gameplay front, it looks like players will be able to report those using exploits, abandoning matches early, and going AFK. Users should also be able to file reports against players displaying a variety of inappropriate and hateful behaviors.

It’s currently unknown when the new Apex legends report categories may launch.

A lot of people aren’t aware that Apex legends Mobile is already in testing. Leaks relating to the iOS and Android game may even have outed some exciting new game modes.
