Cyberpunk 2077 Expansion Release Date Window

Cyberpunk 2077’s First Expansion Gets a Release Date Window

Developer CD Projekt RED has confirmed the first Cyberpunk 2077 expansion release date window during a financial call. The first major expansion for the game is scheduled for 2023, alongside development of content related to The Witcher during production plans throughout 2022.

How was the Cyberpunk 2077 expansion release date window confirmed?

Through a quick tweet on the official Cyberpunk 2077 account, CD Projekt Red verified that the upcoming expansion has been slated for 2023. No additional insights were given as to what would be in this content, but more details will be coming “later this year.” The developer also plans to provide “further support for Cyberpunk 2077” as the game continues to receive updates to improve performance and fix glitches.

During the financial call, the Polish developer also confirmed that it has multiple projects in the pipieline, including the new Witcher game which will run on Unreal Engine 5, a next-gen version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, a spin-off to GWENT: The Witcher Card Game, and work on an unannounced project at The Molasses Flood.

Given that CD Projekt RED is no slouch when it comes to expansions, with the outstanding Blood and Wine DLC for The Witcher 3 as the chief example, this upcoming expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 has high expectations. Some fans reacting to the tweet believe the release window of 2023 seems very far out, but most wish for the developer to take its time, both to prevent crunch and to ensure that the expansion’s release isn’t as bug-ridden as the infamous launch for the base game.

Adam Kiciński, president and CEO of CD Projekt RED, revealed in a strategy update video on the developer’s official YouTube channel that it had abandoned plans of creating a separate multiplayer Cyberpunk 2077 game, akin to Grand Theft Auto Online. Kiciński said that “instead of primarily focusing on one big online experience or game, we are focusing on bringing online into all of our franchises one day.”

This suggests that the Cyberpunk 2077 expansion might seek to integrate online multiplayer into the game. Dataminers who poured through the game’s code during its initial release had discovered pieces of possible Heist and Deathmatch modes, so it would seem that there are plans of online multiplayer for the game.

In other news, Bandai Namco has sparked rumors of a remaster for Kid Icarus or Star Fox, and Dead Island 2 might be releasing much sooner than we expect.
