Rumor: Xbox Game Pass Family Plan Release Date Planned for the Holidays

The rumored Xbox Game Pass Family Plan release date has not been given an official date by Microsoft, but journalist and Microsoft expert Brad Sams believes that it will be slated later this year. Brad Sams is a credible source as VP & General Manager of Stardock Software, an editorial advisor for BWW Media Group, and the owner of the newsletter entitled “The Business of Gaming” specifically for Windows, Xbox, and the world of Microsoft.

When will the Xbox Game Pass Family Plan be released?

On his latest edition of the Sams report on YouTube on April 15 where he discusses widgets, Halo, and the Microsoft Surface device, Brad Sams answers a reader question about the Xbox Game Pass Family Plan. At the 11:25 mark of the episode (as pointed out by Idle Sloth on Twitter), Sams seems to have some insider information regarding the intended release date for the plan:

“The Family Party Plan, last I heard, was targeted for a fall release around the holiday time of this year. Keep in mind, lots of things change, lots of things are in moving timelines, so that was the initial target. We’ll see if it arrives.”

If the rumor is true, the Xbox Game Pass Family Plan release date being right before the holidays would be an opportune time, as families begin to sort out gifts for the Christmas season. Along with Starfield slated to release on November 11 this year with a Day One launch on Xbox Game Pass, there could be other games releasing around the same time, perhaps with a Day One launch as well, like Forza Motorsport 8. It would also help bolster sales of the Xbox Series consoles, especially the affordable and well-stocked Xbox Series S compared to the PS5 at least.

As previously reported, the Xbox Game Pass Family Plan is rumored to have various tiers, with the highest tier allowing up to five players within the same country access to the subscription service. One member of the plan will need to be the primary account holder with the responsibility of controlling the permission settings of other members in the account.

In other news, the upcoming Halo Infinite Season 2 maps Breaker and Catalyst have been detailed in a gorgeous trailer, and the first expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 has received a release window.
