Battlefield 2042 4.0 Update Somewhat Unbreaks the Game

As promised by EA community manager Kevin Johnson several days ago, the Battlefield 2042 4.0 update has been released with over 400 fixes, improvements, and quality-of-life changes. Most importantly, it brings in-game voice chat for parties and squads, as well as some balance adjustments to specialists.

What changes come with the Battlefield 2042 4.0 patch?

While you can read the full patch notes for the Battlefield 2042 4.0 update from a blog post on the game’s official website, but it’s a very long read given the sheer number of adjustments. As such, here are several highlights:

It’s taken several updates after Battlefield 2042’s launch in early October in 2021, but this patch finally adds the much-requested VoIP functionality. With in-game voice chat being unavailable from the very beginning, players have had to use other programs like Discord to communicate with their teammates.

In addition to adding a Scoreboard at the end of a round and several changes to weapon attachments that make them more distinct from one another, specialists have been given some balance adjustments. The electrical engineer Navin Rao and recon expert Paik have had some of their Traits reworked. Vehicles have been tweaked too; for example, the M5C Bolte have had its missile launcher weakened and its passengers easier to target.

On top of that, EA has fixed issues with being unable to revive players if they are too close to objects or to ADS after exiting a vehicle. Damage assists now trigger from a lower damage threshold and helping teammates kill an enemy by deploying smoke will give you credit for a kill assist. Ribbons are also easier to unlock across all of the game’s modes.

Fans reacting to the patch notes on the Battlefield 2042 Reddit are more or less grateful for the fixes, with some players hoping to hop into the game again. But for many, this update is “too little, too late,” with a few players still wanting changes to aim assist and overall game performance. Some feel that all of these fixes only prove that Battlefield 2042 wasn’t ready to launch when it did.

That said, the developers are scheduling another update for May and promise additional bug fixes and quality-of-life changes.

In other news, the Elden Ring 1.04 update has been released with a focus on strength-based builds, and No More Heroes 3 has received a release window for non-Switch consoles.
