This year’s Call of Duty won’t be revealed until later this year, but any negotiations for marketing deals will have been worked out months in advance. In a recent meeting, Sony revealed the deals they have in place for both current and upcoming games, but Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was not amongst those listed, offering even more evidence for the theory that Xbox will have the marketing deal for the next COD game this year.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on Xbox
Over recent years, Call of Duty had some sort of exclusivity deal with Sony’s Playstation consoles, usually timed-exclusivity deals for DLC expansions and game modes. However, last year’s deal for Call of Duty: Vanguard only included seasonal Combat Packs and extra XP events. According to Sony’s recent meeting, as recorded by reddit user u/ItsLCGaming, the company doesn’t have a marketing deal for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 this year.
With Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard still pending, this shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise. Call of Duty games will still be appearing on Playstation for some years to come thanks to existing agreements, but many are now expecting the exclusive content to appear on Xbox instead. Xbox CEO Phil Spencer has also expressed the desire to keep Call of Duty on Playstation platforms.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is rumored to be revealed in June with a glimpse at the single-player modes in a campaign trailer on June 8. A bigger reveal is expected to follow a day later in Summer Games Fest. A multiplayer reveal is then penciled in for sometime in August. However, none of those dates have been confirmed by Activision or Infinity Ward, so take them with a pinch of salt until we hear something official.
In other news, Apex Legends Mobile will not be released in Belgium due to the country’s regulations on gambling. Elsewhere, Dead By Daylight dating sim Hooked On You will arrive on Steam later this year.
