Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown PS4 and Xbox One Versions Canceled, Racer Also Delayed Till 2023

Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown — the successor to the previously Atari-published racer — has been delayed till 2023. Publisher Nacon has also announced Solar Crown’s PS4 and Xbox One versions have been canceled. Speaking on the game’s delay, the developers said:

“With so much support from fans of the series, we know many of you will be disappointed, but our goal with Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown is to make it the most polished gaming experience in the franchise by spending more time on its development.”

Why is Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown canceled on PS4 and Xbox One?

With game delays being as common as ever in the industry, fans may not be surprised. However, disappointment may come with the announcement of the PS4 and Xbox One versions being canceled. Developers say the cancelation will allow them to focus on maximizing the technology with the latest consoles, which will they believe will improve the overall quality of the game. Nacon has also confirmed plans for closed betas before release. They are currently working on a schedule for these betas and will update fans in due course.

Alongside these announcements, information was also revealed on gameplay in Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown. Despite a change in developers from the first two games, the new team wants to stay true to the franchise’s DNA. This is being done by including many of the ‘lifestyle’ elements seen in previous games; whilst also providing a realistic driving experience.

The blog post also said developers hope to bring “new experiences” to the Test Drive franchise. Clans seem to play a big role in the game. Hong Kong Island is contested by multiple factions in which players can choose to join. Each clan will have an HQ for the ‘lifestyle’ element of Solar Crown, allowing them to celebrate victories and discover new missions together.
