Deadpool 3 and Wolverine: Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman Confirm Logan is Canon

After teasing a team-up between Deadpool and Wolverine in Deadpool 3, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman returned to Twitter to troll fans with what they called a “quick explainer video” answering some critical questions. For the most part, it was just a way to poke fun at everybody who was asking for more details surrounding the upcoming film. One question we actually did get an answer to, however, was whether or not the events of the movie Logan were still canon.

Deadpool 3: Is Logan dying still canon?

Speaking directly to the camera, Reynolds explains that Logan takes place in 2029 and is a “totally separate thing” from Deadpool 3. “Logan dies in Logan,” he adds. “Not touching that.” This is as good a confirmation as any that Logan is canon — at least, in the universe where the film takes place.

The comments come after confirmation yesterday (September 27, 2022) that Wolverine would be joining Deadpool 3, with Jackman once again stepping into the role of the adamantium clawed mutant. This will mark the character’s first official, in-person involvement in an MCU film, so fans were naturally curious as to whether or not this would perhaps be a different version of the popular X-Men character.

What we can take away from Reynolds’ comments, is that Deadpool 3 takes place before the events of Logan and Wolverine’s eventual demise. While the door has been left slightly ajar as to whether this may be an entirely different version of Jackman’s anti-hero, there has been no mention of the Multiverse having a part to play. Whichever version of Wolverine we get, it looks likely that he is to spar with Deadpool 3’s titular trickster, if the over-the-top actions of Reynolds and Jackman in this Twitter video are to be believed.

Deadpool 3 is currently slated for release on September 6, 2024. The feature is being written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, following a first draft by Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin (Bob’s Burgers).

In other news, Andor viewers spotted the Starkiller Armor in an episode 4 Easter Egg for the Star Wars series, and House of the Dragon viewers were left “horrified” by the window scene in episode 6.
