Blizzard Apologizes For Rough Overwatch 2 Launch

Blizzard has apologized for Overwatch 2‘s launch week issues, saying that the team has not met expectations with the debut of its FPS sequel.

Overwatch 2 has faced a ton of issues at launch, with players stuck in lengthy queues, being booted out of the game due to server issues, along with Blizzard’s servers being subjected to DDoS attacks. Now, Blizzard has commented on these teething issues.

Blizzard comments on Overwatch 2’s server errors

In an Overwatch 2 launch status update posted to the Blizzard forums, the game’s Community Manager, Jodie, said:

Hello, heroes. Yesterday was an exciting day for the Overwatch team—a day that we know you have been looking forward to for a long time. While millions of people have been enjoying the game, the launch has not met your, or our, expectations.

First, we want to apologize to our players. We expected the launch of Overwatch 2 to go smoothly. We hold ourselves to a higher standard and we are working hard to resolve the issues you are experiencing.

Jodie then continued to outline how Blizzard is tackling these issues, from working on its servers to improve stability, to removing phone number requirements after backlash against this system. Jodie also confirmed that players aren’t losing progress or items when it comes to merging their accounts, and that Blizzard was also addressing an issue where heroes and items would be incorrectly locked for existing players.

Ultimately, both Blizzard and Overwatch 2 players want the same thing — for everyone to be able to play Overwatch 2. Hopefully, these issues will be rectified sooner rather than later.
