If you enjoyed Mindfish’s Soviet-inspired FPS Atomic Heart, you’ll be pleased to know that the latest patch has now gone live. If that wasn’t enough, the upcoming DLC now has a release date.
It’s called Annihilation Instinct
Over on the Atomic Heart Steam page, the list of changes for version 1.8.0.0 show that the release now has a New Game Plus+ mode. The update has been rolling out to PC and console ports as of June 26.
Described as the most difficult feature yet, New Game+ implements new enemy abilities, which includes “immunities to certain attacks.” There are also some extra enemy auras, which indicate the presence of certain abilities.
Alongside this, there have been some improvements to the overall stability of Atomic Heart, though the changelog on Steam doesn’t go into details.
However, one other thing to note is the teaser trailer for the upcoming “Annihilation Instinct” content, which is due to release on August 2. This DLC is said to continue the main story, in which you will learn what happened after the events of the main game.
The trailer itself is pretty bombastic, showing the kind of high-octane action that Atomic Heart is known for, even if Mundfish’s title was not hugely well received.
The fact that the game was also marred in controversy not long after it launched also didn’t help things. Some felt the studio was a little insensitive in developing an FPS that centered around an alternative Russia, particularly in light of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
Still, there will be plenty of fans out there who praised Atomic Heart, so the opportunity to get to grips with some new content soon will be appealing to some.
