Iconic Horror Game Clock Tower Coming to Modern Consoles in 2024

Get ready, horror fans. The influential Japanese title Clock Tower is getting remastered and released to modern gaming platforms, and is expected to arrive in 2024.

Clock Tower will have new features

If you like your scares in 16-bit, then this could be the game for you. It’s being put through Limited Run‘s Carbon Engine, and the studio at the helm of the project will be adding in some extra features for this enhanced version.

In a video posted to YouTube by WayForward, the team responsible for the upcoming enhanced Clock Tower, we see the game will feature an animated introduction, “motion-comic cutscenes,” a theme song by voice actress and singer Mary McGlynn (who sang on the Silent Hill series), and more.

While there’s no set date yet, Clock Tower will be coming in “early 2024.” The game will be available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, and Steam. What’s even more remarkable about this is it represents the first time the game has officially made its way to the western gaming market, having been exclusively a Japanese release.

For those who never got a chance to play the 1995 original, Clock Tower is something of a landmark in horror gaming, pre-dating the likes of Resident Evil.

Its power comes from the inability to defend yourself against the stalking Scissorman. It puts emphasis on the “survival” in survival horror, years before Frictional Games’ Amnesia series would come along.

Those who were lucky enough to play Clock Tower back in the day will recall the terror of diving into the shoes of Jennifer Simpson as she tries to escape her attacker. Now, a new audience will be able to see this influential horror title come next year.
