The Crash Bandicoot 4 multiplayer modes are a first for the series. Well, at least in this form. Crash 4 has a few different multiplayer options and they’re all a little different. Here’s how to start the Crash 4 multiplayer modes and what each of them are.
Crash 4 Multiplayer Modes | Pass N. Play
Pass N. Play is a rather straightforward mode you can activate right on the map in the campaign. The rules are flexible yet still simple. Two to four local players take turns playing the game and have to pass the controller upon death, checkpoint, or both. You get to set the rules.
Once you hit a checkpoint or die, you will get a prompt telling you to pass the controller to the next player. Each player is highlighted in a certain color. This isn’t quite a competitive mode, but you will get a breakdown at the end showing each person’s stats (Wumpa fruit collected, boxes broken, and deaths). Completing one level with Pass N. Play will net you the “No It’s MY Turn” trophy or achievement.
Crash 4 Multiplayer Modes | Checkpoint Race
Checkpoint Race is a local competitive mode that you can only access on the main title screen under Bandicoot Battle. Here, two to four local players play some sort of a time trial and race from checkpoint to checkpoint. The game switches players at each checkpoint. If no one reaches the next checkpoint, you can choose to restart that stretch or skip it.
The person who wins the most checkpoints wins the match so be sure to break the most time crates. Playing a round will net you the “Fleet of Feet” trophy or achievement.
Crash 4 Multiplayer Modes | Crate Combo
Crate Combo is a local competitive mode that you can only access on the main title screen under Bandicoot Battle. This one also tests your speed but in a different way. Two to four players take turns running from checkpoint to checkpoint with the goal of staying alive and breaking the most crates along the way while keeping up your multiplier.
You don’t have to survive to the next checkpoint to win but getting to that checkpoint adds 100 points to your score for that checkpoint. The player with the most crate points at the end of each checkpoints wins a star and the player with the most stars at the end of the level wins. You also get the “Settle The Score” trophy or achievement by playing one round of Crate Combo.
