Fans of previous Arkane games on Xbox such as the Dishonored series and Prey may have noticed that Deathloop seems to be only available on PC and PlayStation at this time, despite Bethesda and Arkane being owned by Microsoft. Is there a Deathloop Xbox Game Pass release date?
Arkane’s Deathloop will arrive on Xbox Game Pass and Xbox consoles in September 2022, a year after the game’s release on PS5 and PC.
A year ago, in September 2020, Microsoft and Xbox purchased Bethesda Softworks and its various studios, such as Arkane, for $7.5 billion. As a consequence of this, many Bethesda titles have now become full Xbox and PC exclusives — such as the studio’s eagerly-anticipated next open-world RPG Starfield, which is not coming to PS5 at all. However, Microsoft confirmed that it would honor exclusivity deals between Bethesda and Sony that were already in place, such as with Ghostwire: Tokyo and Deathloop.
As a consequence of this, players looking forward to Deathloop now face the odd situation where Microsoft is publishing a PS5 console exclusive. However, as revealed in a recent State of Play, Deathloop is only a temporary PS5 exclusive for a year — so soon after September 14, 2022, Deathloop will release on Xbox Series X and Xbox Game Pass, and hopefully Game Pass for PC too. Anyone who wants to play Deathloop tomorrow, however, will have to buy the full physical or digital version on PS5 or PC as it will not available on Game Pass until September 2022.
