With online games such as New World, there’s always a reason to remain active. That’s not to say that you have to keep moving, but Amazon Games’ new MMO includes an AFK timer intended to kick idle users from the session. You can only remain inactive for so long before you get the boot, so how much time do you have before you get kicked?
How long does the New World AFK timer last?
The AFK timer in New World is set for 25 minutes. If you idle for any longer than that, you’re likely to be kicked from the session. All you need to do to avoid the AFK timer is move your mouse around or press a key on your keyboard.
This amount of time shouldn’t be too big a problem for most players. After all, 25 minutes is fairly generous when it comes to stepping away from the keyboard. There’s no harm in quick breaks to stretch your legs, rest your eyes, or grab a snack. Still, it’s not a huge amount of time. If you wind up having to leave the game for an unexpected phone call, for instance, you may wind up getting disconnected.
It’s worth mentioning that this timer does not include the wait time to join servers. Especially in the days and weeks following launch, server queues may leave players waiting to login. Others have already encountered outright failed connections. Don’t worry, though; you won’t be kicked while trying to join. The AFK timer only applies once you’ve already joined the server.
Still, it’s best not to take this function as an invitation to remain idle. The AFK timer in New World is designed to kick inactive users after 25 minutes. Otherwise, players who go idle may cause delays for other users trying to connect. If you know you’ll need to be gone for a while, logging out manually is a smart move.
