New World How to Catch a Snail

New World Snail Location: How to catch a snail for the Baited quest

Players will need to catch a snail in New World as part of the Baited quest. Unfortunately, the NPC that assigns the quest doesn’t give much of a hint about how players are supposed to locate and catch a snail. Fortunately, this task is pretty easy to accomplish once players know what to do.

How to catch a snail in New World for the Baited quest

New World Aquatic Snail Item Description

Players need a fishing pole to catch a snail in New World (those who still need fibers to craft one can check our guide here). Bait isn’t required, but it can be helpful since Aquatic Snails are uncommon catches.

The two baits that are best to use for catching snails are Woodlouse Bait and Firefly Bait. Players can find these two items:

  • Firefly Bait: Found by harvesting Brair.
  • Woodlouse Bait: Found when harvesting Bushes.

Players can also increase their odds of snagging uncommon catches by using a fishing pole with a Lucky Day or Lucky Night mod on it.

Once players have a fishing rod and the bait of their choice, they’re ready to catch a snail. One thing to keep in mind is that snails can only be found in fresh water, so players should head toward a river or a pond, not the ocean.

Fishing in a hotspot can increase the odds of hooking uncommon catches, so players will want to seek them out. However, depending on RNG, it could take a single cast to catch a snail in New World or 50. So a good rule is that if a player hasn’t seen one within 10-20 casts, it’s probably time to move on and try elsewhere.

Once players finally get their Aquatic Snail, they’ll likely be wondering how to use it to make snail bait. Fortunately, this is the easy part of the Baited quest. Just open the inventory, hold the “S” key, and click on the snail and it’ll be salvaged into Snail Bait.
