Nico Williams (Athletic Bilbao)

This Spanish attacking midfielder is young but already a three-star player. As such, Williams could already slot into most teams, given his experience in the Spanish La Liga. His low market value and potential to become a league-leading midfielder makes him a useful signing if you’re looking for a new number 10. However, Athletic Bilbao are unlikely to let him go easily due to his age and potential – as well as having three years left on his contract. As such, you might have to pay more than the £18 million market value to secure the deal.
Unai Vencedor (Athletic Bilbao)

This 20-year-old defensive midfielder isn’t quite as good as his Bilbao teammate, but Vencedor is a solid player that will excel for years to come. In FM 2022, midfielders tend to enjoy their best years in their late 20s. As such, signing Vencedor to a long-term contract will give you a decade of consistent performances. That said, Bilbao could again drive a hard bargain, as his current contract lasts until 2025. However, since he’s less of a potential star as Williams, there’s definitely room to snap up Vencedor for your team.
Noni Madueke (PSV)

For our money, Noni Madueke is one of the best young players in Football Manager 2022. This English attacking midfielder currently plays for Dutch side PSV, and is already one of the best players in the Eredivisie. In fact, his base stats in FM 2022 are already as good as renowned midfielders like Real Madrid’s Eduardo Camavinga – and you can get Madueke a lot cheaper. His contract runs until 2026, so it’ll be hard to prise him away from PSV for anything less than £40 million. That said, he’s an English player that will prove very useful to filling a Premier League club’s homegrown quota, and will no doubt lead the line for years to come.
Connor Gallagher (Chelsea)

- Market value – £22m
- Potential growth – 3 stars
Talking about exciting English midfielders, there aren’t many better in Football Manager 2022 than Connor Gallagher. This versatile player can slot in through the middle or on the wing and provides plenty of assists, as well as lethal long-range shots. The only caveat is that in the 2021-22 season, he’s on loan at Crystal Palace. As such, you won’t be able to make an offer for him until that season ends – at which point, owners Chelsea may demand a high price. However, they’re a club who are very easy to strike loan deals with in FM 2022. As such, we recommend trying for a season-long loan with an option to buy, to lock in a midfielder whose scoring stats will rival your striker’s.
