How to get Arceus in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

Pokemon fans are wondering they can catch Arceus in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. Given that Pokemon Legends: Arceus (official site) will involve the creature’s lore, being able to catch it in BDSP would make for a good promo. We’ll take a look at how to get Arceus in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl below.

Can you get Arceus in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

There currently isn’t any way to catch Arceus in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl (though players can get some other mythical Pokemon). That’s no surprise, though, because the creature hasn’t been catchable in any Pokemon game. Arceus did debut in the original Diamond and Pearl in Generation IV but could only be obtained via an event. It’s one of the rarest Pokemon since it’s only been available through three events and one Global Link Promotion:

  • Toys R’ US: November 7-15, 2009
  • Global Link: February 1 to May 1, 2012
  • Manest Online Promo: December 21, 2015 to January 30, 2016
  • Pokemon 20th Anniversary: July 30 to December 31, 2016

That means it’s been over five years since players have had a chance to get Arceus. If we had to guess, the Pokemon will return in an upcoming event, possibly to promote Pokemon Legends: Arceus.

However, those that are lucky enough to have snagged an Arceus years ago might be in luck. The Pokemon’s data is reportedly in the game, so trainers can bring it forward to Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl through Pokemon Home *but it’s not required for the National Dex). Otherwise, players are out of luck for now.

It’s also possible that The Pokemon Company/Game Freak wants to hold Arceus back for the upcoming Pokemon Legends: Arceus. We’re not entirely sure what that Pokemon’s role in the plot will be, but we assume it’ll include some lore about the creation of the Hisui (Sinnoh). This very different game will be entirely unlike any other in the series, and Arceus is likely to be its central figure.
