Unlock Walk Together in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

To let a Pokemon out of their Pokeball to walk with them in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, players need to:

  • Play until Hearthome City
  • Go to the northwest or northeast gate in the city.
  • Enter to arrive at the Amity Square Gate.
  • Walk toward the NPC behind to desk to trigger the dialog.
  • Head into the park and enjoy.
  • Leave the park and speak with the NPC to unlock the Walk Together feature.

After unlocking Walk Together, players can let their Pokemon out of their Pokeballs by:

  • Press X to open the menu
  • Open the Pokemon menu
  • Select any Pokemon
  • Choose “Walk together”

After following the above steps, the chosen Pokemon will appear in the game and walk alongside their trainer. Note that the Walk Together function doesn’t work inside buildings or in the Grand Underground.

Unfortunately, there are some drawbacks to this feature in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. The most noticeable one (aside from bugs) is that Pokemon aren’t to scale. Players will quickly realize that Onix isn’t too much bigger on screen than Ekans. The larger Pokemon lose a lot of their majesty when they’re smaller than the chibi trainer players control.

There also isn’t much to do with Pokemon when they’re walking with players. They react much the same as they did when the feature first debuted in Pokemon Yellow. Players can examine them to get a brief description of what they’re doing, but that’s it.
