Valve Looking For “Principal Industrial Designer”

Game developer and Lord of the Industry Valve posted a job listing for a principal industrial designer Aug. 28.

“We’re hoping to add your expertise in product design and manufacturing, ergonomics, usability, aesthetics, and surfacing to our team,” reads the ad.

Can it be that Newell’s clear and utter hatred of Windows 8 has finally driven him to create his own console? Gods, I hope so. The ad goes on to read, “Valve is traditionally a software company… We’re frustrated by the lack of innovation in the computer hardware space though, so we’re jumping in…

There’s a real void in the marketplace, and opportunities to create compelling user experiences are being overlooked.”

Those words are music to my ears. Now, we must face reality and admit this may just be a move to redesign mice, keyboards, and other computer bits, as they’re specifically mentioned in the ad. Or they could finally be making a Steambox, in which case we can all die happy gamers, no longer slaves to PSN hacks and Xbox LIVE fees.

Just imagine: A Steambox. Shaped like your buddy Companion Cube. Bundled with Half Life 3 at launch. Be still, my heart.
