Spider-Man PS4 has garnered praise from reviewers and fans alike and that affection has translated into digital sales. Insomniac Games’ beloved interpretation of the web-slinger was the best-selling game on PSN on the PS4 in September 2018. It had almost a full month of sales too, given that it came out on September 7.
Insomniac even tweeted a brief “Thank you everyone!!!” in response to the news on the PlayStation Blog. Spider-Man outsold every sports game in the lineup from NBA 2K19, FIFA 19, NHL 19, and Madden 19. Although FIFA 19 only was on the store for a few days since officially released on September 28.
The lineup goes as follows:
- Spider-Man
- NBA 2K19
- FIFA 19
- Battlefield 1
- Destiny 2: Forsaken – Legendary Edition
- NHL 19
- Madden 19
- Grand Theft Auto V
- Shadow of the Tomb Raider
- The Last of Us Remaster
Spider-Man‘s physical sales have also been doing extremely well. It felled God of War as the fastest-selling game of 2018 in the U.K. The game even managed to sell 3.3 million copies in three days. For comparison, God of War sold 3.1 million copies in three days.
It even did well in Japan, which is something that Western-developed games don’t usually do in that region. Players are even hunting for the platinum trophy more than most other big PS4 titles. That could be a testament to how attainable it is but also how many people are loving the game.
The PlayStation Blog post also showed the charts for the other platforms as well, which includes PSVR and the Vita but not the PS3. The top three PSVR titles were Firewall Zero Hour, Superhot VR, and Creed: Rise to Glory. Fornite: Battle Royale, Warface, and H1Z1 were among the top free-to-play games. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Bully, and Destroy All Humans! were the best-selling PlayStation classics. But not that PlayStation Classic. That doesn’t come out until December 3.
