A Serious Sam PS4 and Xbox One version has apparently been rated by the ESRB. This makes for very good odds that some of the games from this bombastic franchise will be making their way to modern consoles!
If you haven’t had the pleasure of playing it, Serious Sam is a little bit like DOOM. You’re a guy. You have guns. (You have a lot of guns.) You must use your considerable armament to slay an unrelenting horde of bad guys, often with gory results. Now it seems that the visceral pleasure of the franchise will be coming to consoles with a Serious Sam PS4 and Xbox One release.
The ESRB has rated the Serious Sam Collection for Sony and Microsoft’s flagship systems. Longtime fans of the series will be wholly unsurprised to hear that the game has received an M rating—there is certainly a copious amount of graphic violence in the game. (Heck, that’s half the fun!)
What’s unclear is which games are actually making their way to consoles in the Serious Sam PS4 and Xbox One editions. A Serious Sam Collection had been released for the previous generation and it contained the following games:
- Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter
- Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter
- Serious Sam 3: BFE and the Jewel of the Nile DLC Pack
- Serious Sam Double D XXL
The first three games make up the core trilogy of the series so far. Double D XXL was a weird sort of project where an indie studio made their own game in the Serious Sam universe with the blessing of the developer and publisher, eventually getting it made available for sale and included in the previous console bundle. Odds are we’ll be getting the original titles on modern consoles, but we can’t be certain if we’ll get Double D XXL or anything else as part of the Serious Sam PS4 and Xbox One releases.
Searches on other rating agencies like PEGI and the like haven’t yet turned anything up as of yet, but an ESRB rating is as good a sign as any that we’ll be hearing something about this game pretty soon. With Serious Sam 4 on the way, fans will soon be able to enjoy a classic experience on their home consoles before stepping into a modern take on the formula.
