It’s a good day for those that enjoy the Command and Conquer series, especially those who enjoy the third entry in the series. Four Xbox 360 Command and Conquer 3 games are now available on the Xbox One.
Major Nelson confirmed today on Twitter that the following games are now backwards compatible with the Xbox One:
- Command and Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars
- Command and Conquer 3 Kane’s Wrath
- Command and Conquer Red Alert 3
- Command and Conquer Red Alert 3: Commander’s Challenge
As with all backwards compatible titles, these four games will now support enhanced graphics and are now available digitally. Those who have the original discs can also use those on the Xbox One.
2019 seems to be the the year that the Command and Conquer series will spring back to life. It was announced a few months ago that a number of titles in the series, including Tiberian Dawn and Red Alert, would be getting a 4K re-release for modern consoles. That is being developed by Petroglyph Games, with Lemon Sky Studios also on board to upgrade the graphics to higher resolutions.
The remasters come as Command and Conquer Rivals was announced back at publisher EA’s EA Play event last year. A mobile title that strays away from its traditional roots, the announcement of the game was met with a hostile reaction by longtime fans. It was released on Android and iOS devices on December 4.
The series has been dormant on both consoles and PC for a while, with Command and Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight being released back in March of 2010. A browser game, Command and Conquer Tiberium Alliances, was released a few years later in 2012.
EA is currently asking those who have an interest in the remasters to participate in their official channels, including reddit, to let them know what they would like to see in the updated games.
