Destiny 2: Shadowkeep release date delayed to October

The Destiny 2: Shadowkeep release date has been delayed. When Bungie announced the upcoming Destiny 2 expansion back in June, the developer said it would be coming September 17, but Bungie now says it needs “a bit more time in the oven.”

A Bungie blog post today announced both the Destiny 2: New Light and Destiny 2: Shadowkeep release dates are now delayed until October 1. According to Bungie, the developer’s independence from Activision has given it more control over development decisions, including when it’s necessary to delay content. The decision for the Destiny 2: Shadowkeep release date delay was made to make sure the team is able to properly implement the expansion’s emphasis on expanding the game’s RPG and MMO elements.

Along with the delay announcement, Bungie announced that the world first race for the Garden of Salvation raid will begin on Saturday, October 5, four days after Shadowkeep’s launch. Bungie will also be extending the availability of Destiny 2’s Moments of Triumph challenges through September 17, giving players three extra weeks to earn rewards. The timeframe for the Destiny 2: Forsaken Solstice of Heroes event, which allows players to earn unique armor, does not appear to be affected, as Solstice of Heroes does not end until August 27.  Finally, Bungie said cross saving will be implemented later this summer. Bungie’s Luke Smith later added on Twitter that he plans to publish a lengthy “state of the game” post next week that will detail changes coming to Destiny 2 in the Shadowkeep expansion.
