Even though there is still a debate concerning PC launchers, Rockstar has jumped in and decided to make that debate even more complicated. Starting today, the studio announced its own Rockstar Games Launcher which it inconspicuously revealed via Rockstar’s Social Club. But this announcement could turn out to be good news for even the staunchest of Steam supports as many players are saying that this is the perfect setup for a release of Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC.
If you download the Rockstar Games Launcher now, you can get a free copy of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas on PC. This is a limited-time offer, so if you’re interested you shouldn’t wait much longer to get one of the most acclaimed GTA games. The launcher is only available for Windows, allowing you to play Rockstar Games’ PC releases. It’s currently unknown if Rockstar will support third-party games on its launcher, but this possibility shouldn’t be excluded given how other launchers, like EA Origin and Steam itself, have started small and branched out.

Some players are debating if this is a truly new launcher or a facelift, considering the existence of the Rockstar Social Club. Some games such as Grand Theft Auto 5 were activated on the Social Club, but the new launcher will most likely serve to host exclusive Rockstar releases from now on.
With the likely exclusivity of RDR2 on PC, the Rockstar Games Launcher will probably be downloaded by millions of players eagerly expecting the latest game from the notorious developer. It can also represent a major blow to competition such as Steam, who would probably be deprived of a potential best-seller, not to mention the possible exclusivity of the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6 as well.
All eyes are now on Rockstar, with the thought of a RDR2 PC announcement crossing many minds. Rockstar’s history is filled with late but improved PC ports, and this launcher only lends more credence to the possibility. Combined with the recent sighting of Red Dead Redemption 2 PC in the code for the Social Club, it’s probably safe to say that it’s only a matter of time.
