Silent Hill artist working on new game — and it might be Hideo Kojima’s

Longtime Silent Hill artist Masahiro Ito, a man who has worked on the first four games in the franchise, has stated that he’s working on a new project. What’s even more surprising is that he may very well be working together with Hideo Kojima on a new horror game.

To understand the context, we need to rewind back to November of 2019. Hideo Kojima insinuated that he might be making a new horror game. Considering the fact that Death Stranding has shipped and is in the tail end of development, it would make sense for him to be dedicating at least a portion of Kojima Production resources towards working on a new title.

And now, we must rewind even further still. Hideo Kojima once worked on a game called P.T., a sort of “preview game” for a Silent Hill title that never was. The cancellation of this game was likely one of the many factors that resulted in him leaving Konami and cutting out on his own to form his own studio.

Now, with Death Stranding wrapping up and an apparent desire to make a new game, the following tweets from the guy who breathed a lot of life into the world of Silent Hill are particularly interesting:

So, Silent Hill artist Masahiro Ito is working on a new game as a “core member” and Hideo Kojima hinted that he might want to make some kind of horror game next. However, Masahiro Ito stopped working on the Silent Hill franchise after Silent Hill 4, a fair amount of time before Hideo Kojima got involved with the franchise.

That’s why this particular tweet from eight years ago is just so darn interesting:

I’ll admit that I might be reaching just a wee bit here, but it’s hard to deny that all of these pieces fit together rather nicely. Hideo Kojima is largely finished with Death Stranding and is hinting that he wants to make a horror game, and a major Silent Hill artist who is partly responsible for making the franchise super spooky says that he’s working on a new game less than two months later. It may just be a coincidence, but I sure hope it isn’t.
