Sony has anounced a pair of new PS5 gamepad colors. The Midnight Black and Cosmic Red PS5 DualSense controllers offer an alternative to the standard white color scheme, which matches the PlayStation 5 console itself. Both of the controllers are available to pre-order in the US right now.
Where to buy the Midnight Black and Cosmic Red PS5 DualSense controllers
The new PS5 Midnight Black and Cosmic Red DualSense controller colors will launch on June 11, 2021. PlayStation lists the Midnight Black PS5 gamepad at $69.99 and the Cosmic Red DualSense at $74.99.
According to PlayStation Blog, the new DualSense colors will be “available at participating retailers globally” from June 11. Currently, Sony’s official PlayStation Store is the only place where the Midnight Black and Cosmic Red gamepads are available to pre-order. In time, that should change; Amazon shoppers can keep an eye on the DualSense product page for updates.
Many PS5 owners aren’t fans of the standard white DualSense color scheme. That can be due to taste, or, perhaps more often, the resulting tendency to display dirt and marks. Anyone playing the likes of Demon’s Souls and The Nioh Collection can probably attest…
Satoshi Aoyagi of PlayStation’s design team states that the Midnight Black and Cosmic Red controllers feature a “subtle blue hue,” just like the standard device. This apparently helps all three to “complement each other nicely” and not look out of place. Additionally, the controller face buttons for each gamepad match the relevant color palette.
There was a lot of demand surrounding SUP3R5’s black PS5 skins, which could be an indication of how popular the Midnight Black DualSense option will be. Unfortunately, the manufacturer reportedly received threats over the product and opted not to complete orders. As a result, PS5 owners have been waiting a long time to get their hands on a black PS5 controller.
