You may not have heard about Stray Gods The Roleplaying Musical before, but that’s likely because it used to be called Chorus: An Adventure Musical and it just got a new name. Created in part by David Gaider, the ex-lead writer of many BioWare titles and part-founder of this game’s developer Summerfall Studios, Stray Gods will now be published by Humble Games and has released a cinematic teaser trailer featuring Laura Bailey’s wonderful singing voice.
Hear Laura Bailey in this Stray Gods teaser trailer
Laura Bailey, famous for her roles in Critical Role and winner of a BAFTA as the voice actress for Abby Anderson in The Last of Us Part II, plays the titular character named Grace in the narrative-driven adventure. After she receives the gifts of the Last Muse in ancient Greek mythology, she has to use her gift of song to navigate a secret world of gods and monsters.
As the name implies, Stray Gods The Roleplaying Musical will prominently feature Bailey’s vocal talents. It also helps that the entire musical composition is composed by Austin Wintory, known for his extraordinary work in Journey, and that the voice director for the game is Troy Baker, a prolific voice actor in his own right.
Now that Stray Gods has the backing of publisher Humble Games, we will safely see the game hopefully by the end of this year. According to a blog post about the recent update, this will allow Summerfall Studios to work with Melbourne band Tripod and Jess Cerro (aka Montaigne) for additional songwriting and instrumentation. The name change away from Chorus: An Adventure Musical is also a smart decision given that another game called Chorus released about three months ago.
Bailey has featured her singing voice a few times before, either as part of an ensemble for the opening themes for Critical Role or at Blizzcon 2018 where she sang “Daughter of the Sea” as the voice of Jaina Proudmoore in World of Warcraft.
In other news, extensive details for Hogwarts Legacy has been revealed in a State of Play presentation, and 2K has also revealed a debut trailer for The Quarry.
