Pokemon Go Alola to Alola Finale Event Begins With a Special Research Story

The Season of Alola is due to end soon in Pokemon Go, but Niantic has crammed in one last event before that happens. The Alola to Alola event began today, May 25, and introduces a branching Special Research story that will give players different tasks and rewards depending on their choices.

Players can choose one of four branches of the Special Research story depending on whether they want to head to Melemele Island, Akala Island, Ula’Ula Island, or Poni Island. Those who manage to complete all four branches of the story by 9:59 am local time on June 1, 2022, will earn access to a fifth bonus end-of-Season Special Research story, although this can also be accessed by purchasing a ticket from the shop for $4.99.

Melemele Island is aimed at players who want to spend time with their friends and tasks are focused on social challenges such as sending Gifts and taking snapshots. Those who are more interested in adventuring need to head to Akala Island for tasks like exploring a certain amount of km or spinning PokéStops. Ula’Ula Island is for those who like to catch Pokemon. Unsurprisingly the tasks for this one involve catching Pokemon and performing certain types of Throws. Finally, Poni Island is for battling players who are tasked with winning in GO Battle League Trainer Battles or defeating Team GO Rocket Leaders. Each branch has its own rewards to be earned although each includes a unique Hat avatar item.

There will also be a themed Collection Challenge that will reward 15,000 XP, 15 Ultra Balls, and an encounter with Rockruff upon completion. Cubone will be one of nine Pokemon to appear more frequently in the wild, although he’s the only one that can be evolved into an Alolan Marowak. Alolan variants will also appear more frequently in Raids or hatching from eggs. The Rowlet, Litten, and Popplio Backpack avatar items can be purchased from the in-game shop for the duration of the event too. The event ends at 8 pm on May 31, 2022.

In other news, new Xbox Series X|S and PS5 Pro consoles are reported to be arriving in 2023/4. Elsewhere, Minecraft is celebrating the fifth anniversary of its Marketplace with free content and discounts.
