Cult of the Lamb Red or Blue Heart: What’s the Difference and Which to Choose?

There are several different types of hearts that players can acquire in Cult of the Lamb. Two of the most common types are Red and Blue Hearts, which the player often has to choose between. So what are the differences between Red and Blue Hearts and which should you choose? Here’s the need-to-know information.

Cult of the Lamb Red and Blue Heart differences

The key difference between Red and Blue Hearts in Cult of the Lamb is that Red Hearts can be healed whereas Blue Hearts can’t be healed.

Red Hearts become hollowed out on the UI when players take damage and can then be refilled with health pickups. Blue Hearts disappear entirely from the UI when players take damage and can’t be refilled with health pickups.

Should I choose the Red or Blue Heart in Cult of the Lamb?

Generally, Red Hearts are the better choice when near the start of a run, as players can get more value out of them by refilling them multiple times throughout. Blue Hearts are a better choice towards the end of a run, when presented with the common choice between half of a Red Heart or a full Blue Heart.

For players who are able to dodge damage consistently and make it all the way to a boss fight without suffering any hits, stacking Blue Hearts can be useful for fortifying the lamb’s maximum health before that big final battle.

The Diseased Heart is another type that players will encounter. Here’s what it does and whether it’s worth picking up.
